Statement
My paintings represent an investigation into the subconscious. My interest lies in the realm of the primal generation of thought and how that
bubbles up into the formalized realization of coherent ideas. In the same sense that an astronomer points a telescope to the stars to discover a
new universe, I point my gaze inwards to discover that which is within me.
As I probe into my subconscious, I record the composition and nature of the fleeting creatures passing before my mind's eye. Some entities,
composed of thought and emotion, are shape shifters; changing their form and taking flight almost as quickly as they come into view. Some
creatures move with great energy; others move with lazy indifference. Some appear to forge alliances, while others separate in conflict. These
creatures engage in many other acts, but rather than attempt to express those actions with words, I capture the essence of their actions
through my paintings.
Bio
I was born in Oahu, Hawaii and grew up in northern California. My early artistic influences came from my mother, a graduate of the San
Francisco Art Academy. I continued adding to my knowledge of art by taking art and design classes at the Chico State University. After this
period, I spent a year and a half studying art and art history in Italy and around Europe. Upon returning to California, I attended the Art Center
College of Design in Pasadena where I earned a degree in art. Although my focus shifted for a time to creating virtual worlds for the video
game industry, my passion for art has brought me back in a deeper and more connected way than ever before.
